Vegetables 2011, the story starts here

Spring is here and we have frogspawn in the pond. Not very photogenic so you'll just have to imagine that bit.

It seemed a good time to start the vegetable plot. We started saving youhurt pots some time ago, with the aid of a hot skewer we now have 24 small plant pots. After filling the first few pots Alex lost enthusiasm and went to play on the slide instead.

He came back once I'd filled all the pots. He made holes and added seeds. The seeds were covered with compost accompanied by night nights and instructions not to let any nasty bed bugs bite. Tomatoes (big and small), french beans and runner beans, courgettes, basil and a few sunflowers are all ready to grow.

After Esme came home she wanted to do some planting too. She chose rainbow carrots for her pot.

OK I know tomatos are not a vegetable, I love the comment I read recently. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in your fruit salad. I imagine there are chefs out there who put tomato in fruit salad but tomatos and ice cream just doesn't sound right to me. You could maybe pull off tomatos and cheesecake though, hmmm experiments anyone?
