Garden progress.

Things are slowly moving on in the garden. It's a big project and we're still feeling unsure about what we are doing with the back. Things are slowly moving though, we've had a quote for replacing the fence and another for removing the eucalyptus tree stump.

It's a bit sad to see the eucalyptus go, we used to look out and admire from our first house (though being glad we didn't have to maintain it) but it really was too big for the garden. It looks like the stump itself is staying though, we are told it's not likely to grow back and that removing it will also mean removing a couple of nice shrubs either side of it. For now it's getting used as a bird table.

The beans are growing well and have been joined by peas, and probably later today by courgettes. The tomatoes are almost ready to go in grow bags. The peppers still have a fair amount of growing to do before they get planted out though.

I've been focusing on the bed by the garage, where we're planning the soft fruits. We've taken out a couple of dead looking palm trees and it's looking a lot clearer.

Today I planned to get round to the part I was dreading. There was lurking under the plants a green plastic thing which looked to me like a compost-er for dog poo. Having ignored it for over a year we hoped getting it out wouldn't be too horrible (though I did put it off last week when the neighbours were having there tea the other side of the fence, just in case).

Having moved all the plants around it it turns out to be an upturned flower pot covering the rodding eye for the drains. So no grim job. It does leave the question of why build a raised bed over it and further questions of what we should do with it now. Obviously it's something we need to access and don;t want to get filled with soil.

We also discovered a man hole behind the palm tree. That too is an interesting position, while the raised bed has and edge to keep the soil off it the fence does appear to go over the top! So something else to work out before the new fence goes in.
