Last days of summer

To celebrate the last day of the summer holidays a few weeks ago we went out to the zoo for a picnic then came home and cooked tea on the BBQ. The next Monday the children went back to school and it really did feel like summer was suddenly over.

However it seems to have made a reappearance this week so what better thing to do than head back to the zoo for another picnic.  Esme has been desperate to have a go on zooropia, a high rope course leading around the zoo. Having got into their safety harnesses she and Dan set off

She had second thoughts after the first set of ropes but rallied round and went on. After that there was no stopping her.

Esme said the tyres were the best bit, Dan said they were his least favourite.
She had no hesitation in jumping off for the slide back down to the ground.

After that we went on to see some animals. The children fed the lorikeets, though neither was keen on the idea of having the birds land on their arms.

As Dan was helping Alex one of the birds thought he would make a good perch
Once he had food they all though so. He did have one sat pirate style on his shoulder but unfortunately I didn't manage to get a picture. A small parrot defiantly goes well with the beard don't you think.

Both children thought the opportunity to sit in a kangaroo's pouch was too good to miss.

On the way home we popped into Tesco for bits to cook on the BBQ, since we discovered that the BBQ grill fits nicely on the fire pit we're planning to stay out for the evening. I'm sure the odd marshmallow or two will get toasted before bedtime.

It's really strange to think it's October.
