We've code named the current garden project as the “view form the kitchen window”. As the name suggests we're trying to do something about the part of the garden which we see from the kitchen window.
Things started looking better last year when the fence was replaced, and later in the year when we removed the rotten log edging form round the beds but the big changes have happened in the last couple of weeks. First digging out the big shrubs which was quite a project in itself. Then we moved the small pond into the new space. I spent a weekend digging out sand and gravel to make way for some soil.
There was a large area of sand in the garden where the previous owners apparently had an inflatable pool, We've managed to fill in a former pond with the sand and gravel removed from this corner, dig some into the clay soil and there's still a big pile left over.
Supplies arrived on Friday morning and we got to work.
Dan built new edges using the wood from the deck we took down last year, and we filled in the hole
Laying out the turf was quite satisfying after all the work of tying to level things out and while not perfect it does look a lot better.
The last couple of rolls of turf went down this morning, filling in the last of the really bare areas and I've been out with fertilizer on the rest of the grass so it can catch up with the new parts.
