Monster Party

We had a lot of fun with Esme's party this year. She wanted a Moshi monsters party so armed with a google image search I duly made some invitations, thinking we wouldn't need too much theme. Usually we just end up playing lots of games and Dan has quite a range to choose from. However it turned out that we had chosen a date when most of her friends were on holiday so we didn't have quite enough people to play many games.

Enter the treasure hunt. There is a game on the website where you have to find and solve the secret code, so we followed the same pattern.

I created a map, a set of clues and our own set of hieroglyphics. Unfortunately my route round the neighbourhood involved a lot of left turns so I had to get a bit creative in my directions, there are not many things that rhyme with left.

Daniel meanwhile set about writing a computer programme which would allow the children to enter the code once they had solved it. Once the code was entered the computer played a soundtrack, of the moshlings shouting "help help, we're trapped" which the children had to listen too to work out where the moshlings were trapped.

The children had a brilliant time charging round and finding all the parts of the code and found the moshlings.

The rest of the afternoon we had a sort of mini sports day with the children earning "rox" (the monster currency) for their efforts.

I also had fun with the food, slugs on sticks (mini sausages) and green and red monster corn (popcorn with coloured sauce) were both hits.

Fortunately for me the creators of moshi monsters made some of the moshlings "foodies" so it wasn't to hard to create a moshling cake. Here's Oddie

And my version.

And of course the party girl herself.
